Directly on the main route into Swadlincote, this derelict spot has sat abandoned and under utilised for several years. However now thanks to local efforts and the support living scheme, it’ll be transformed into a community that caters towards the needs of vulnerable adults.
Not only will the land, to which spans nearly half an acre, provide professional care to those that need it, but also in the process creating five full-time job opportunities. All of this whilst also still including space for four three-bedroom semi-detached homes, which will be made available on the open market on completion.
The plans originally put forward in April of 2018, they’ve now been approved allowing the development to move forward. This once purposeless space will now feature 18 high quality individual bedrooms to support vulnerable adults with learning disabilities, with 24/7 aid available on site. Also included is a tenancy support program, with availability to disabled access and adapted wet rooms.
These schemes are widely supported by NHS England a variety of other health care bodies, generating jobs from the local labour pool and delivering an economic benefit to the area. All whilst providing specialist accommodation that allows disabled tenants to lead a normal and independent life.
This comes alongside other positive news in the Swadlincote area, with jobs set to be created thanks to a new major retailor opening a store in the area. Toolstation have decided to setup a branch in the new Optimum Business Park, however no date has been set for the official opening.
